EastBoro July Hive Update

The beehive at 8251 Eastboro continues to impress in the mid-summer heat! Over the past weeks, the hive received their scheduled organic pest management program to stay ahead of common hive pests like the varroa mite. Luckily, mite loads are close to zero which means the colony has been able to focus on producing honey and new bees! Late in the month Up Top Acres harvested close to 75 pounds of honey from the hive, making sure to leave enough for what they need for the rest of the year! Over the next couple of weeks the honey will be processed and bottled and will be delivered to the Property Management office for distribution! So keep an eye out for how you can get your hands on some.

The summer heat has been the biggest consideration during this period, so I added some equipment to help with cooling and ventilation. The bees have been handling the heat well and maintaining a good level of activity. At this point, the hive is looking good as we head toward the transition out of the main summer season!

Fun Fact

A honey bee's wings can beat around 200 times per second! That's part of what allows thousands of bees to create the airflow needed to cool their hive.

Honey Update!

The time has come for the honey to be harvested at the EastBoro hive! The worker bees have filled the frames and our team will be getting the honey processed and jarred for you soon!
