Carlyle Gateway July Hive Update

The bees at Carlyle Gateway have had busy last few weeks and continue to work incredibly hard in the mid-summer heat! Since the last update, the hive received their scheduled organic pest management program to stay ahead of common hive pests like the varroa mite. Luckily, mite loads are close to zero which means the colony has been able to focus on producing honey and new bees!

And produce honey they have! Between the 2 colonies, over 100 pounds of honey between your two hives! The colony was left with enough honey and other resources so the bees can continue building up their stores going into the fall and winter.

I also added some equipment to help the hives deal with the summer heat. Keeping good airflow through the hive is especially important during these hot months, and the bees have been working hard to regulate the temperature inside. Overall, everything is looking positive and the colonies are continuing to stay very active

Fun Fact

The temperature inside a honey bee brood nest is maintained at roughly 95°F, even when the weather outside is much hotter or colder. Bees are surprisingly good at controlling their own little climate!

Honey Update!

The time has come for the honey to be harvested at the Carlyle Gateway hives! The worker bees have filled the frames and our team will be getting the honey processed and jarred for you soon!
