Crops Are Here!
The heat-loving favorites are rolling in, eggplant, cucumbers, peppers, and basil are all producing great yields at the Harvest Tables this summer. None of it happens without help though: bees and other pollinators have been buzzing from bloom to bloom all season, doing the essential work that makes every harvest possible!

Summer! It's a hot time in Savannah but that doesn't mean the growing stops. Okra is living its best life, basking in the sun, and producing like crazy. Every week there's more and more okra to be harvested. Sweet potato plants have vined out throughout our beds, taking over as a nice weed suppressing groundcover and sauteed green in one. Our herb garden is also popping off with abundant rosemary, sage, basil, and oregano. It's HOT so many of our fruiting vegetables will wait until it's bit cooler to continue fruiting and maturing, but we do have a few eggplants and peppers making an appearance here and there. And the pollinators LOVE our garden. Every visit brings new sightings of butterflies, dragonflies, and every type of bee you could think of. A bit of sun and heat don't stop our pollinators from getting the food they need!
What’s your favorite part about summer in this garden?
My favorite thing about summer in the garden is getting to see the changes throughout the season - when flowers bloom and die back, when vegetables mature enough to harvest, when herbs grow and are fragrant, and when everything is beautiful. Progress in the garden can look like a lot of things, but the cyclical nature of it is one of my favorites. It is an ebb and flow with nature and getting to witness it firsthand is a joy to behold.
