Warm-Weather
Crops Are Here!
The heat-loving favorites are rolling in, eggplant, cucumbers, peppers, and basil are all producing great yields at the Harvest Tables this summer. None of it happens without help though: bees and other pollinators have been buzzing from bloom to bloom all season, doing the essential work that makes every harvest possible!
a Note from your farmer, kaia
It’s been a great first half of the season, with a very productive start to summer. All of the fruits have been thriving of late, with our first big harvests of tomatoes and peppers (sweet and spicy) the past few weeks along with cucumbers galore and lovely eggplants. Our greens are doing a great job of pushing through these warmer months and still providing a leafy harvest each week. A little highlight was getting to walk some of the daycare kids and staff through the garden for a mini tour where they could smell and touch the plants and learn more about how food grows. I’ve also enjoyed the company of one particular robin who is often there during my evening visits and who helps to oversee the garden when I am gone. In all, there has been lots of great growth so far and I am looking forward to these next few months.
What’s your favorite part about summer in this garden?
My favorite thing about summer in this garden is the smell of the marigolds and tomatoes when I brush past them - it is such a warm, bright smell that will always make me think of summer.

CUCUMBERS
Over 75 POUNDS harvested so far this season!
Did you know?
Cucumbers are over 95% water, which makes them one of the most refreshing things you can pull straight off the vine on a hot summer day. They're also fast growers, going from flower to harvest-ready fruit in as little as a week under the right conditions.
