EastBoro June ‘25 Hive Update
The hive at 8251 Greensboro continued its strong growth as the summer heat picked up in June. At the beginning of the month, a second box was added to the hive for the colony to expand into. The bees got right to work, building honeycomb for the queen to lay her eggs into. The colony also received their summer treatment of organic pest management controls, which should allow them to focus on building their honey reserves and tending to their young.
The bees have been pollinating all of the flowering vegetable plants on the parking garage garden like cucumbers, eggplant and peppers which should be harvest-ready starting in July thanks to their work!
You may be wondering how your bees have been faring on these hot summer days…
Fun fact, honeybees figured out air conditioning way before humans ever invented it! They do this by collecting water and placing the droplets on the honeycomb which they then fan to evaporate the water. This cool, evaporated air lowers the temperature of the hive, which allows the bees to keep working hard!
