1950 Opportunity Garden 2025 Recap

Thanks from your farmer, AMANDA!

This season at 1950 Opportunity Way brought steady growth and plenty of color to the rooftop. From the first weeks of summer through fall, the garden filled out beautifully with rows of Swiss chard, kale, collards, and carmen peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, basil, and parsley.

Interplanted marigolds, sweet alyssum, and scallions added both function and beauty, drawing in pollinators and natural pest control while brightening the beds. As the rooftop opened mid-season, tenants began spending more time alongside the plants, turning the space into a small oasis for coffee breaks, lunch, and fresh air with views.

Once a month, the community came together for our harvest tables, where everything grown onsite was shared — from tender greens to the late-season collards that reached enormous size by the end of the season.

With the best view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and a flourishing mix of crops and color, the rooftop at 1950 Opportunity Way has become a favorite place to pause, unwind, and enjoy the changing seasons.
