1500 K Street May ‘25 Hive Update

Just buzzing by to say hi! My name is James and I am your new Beekeeper for 2025 on the rooftop at 1500 K Street! A few weeks ago, our team at Up Top Acres added a beehive to the burgeoning natural oasis just a couple hundred feet from the rooftop patio. This new ecological hotspot hosts a variety of annual vegetables, perennial herbs and flowers that will provide resources for the thousands of honeybees and native pollinators that now call the rooftop at 1500 K Street their home. Honeybees are naturally only focused on bringing resources back to the hive, not on interacting with humans, so the risk of stings is very small!

Right now, forager bees are bringing back lots of pollen and nectar from all sorts of flowering plants and trees. The queen bee is currently laying between 1,000 and 2,000 eggs per day to take advantage of the nectar flow. Keep an eye out for additional boxes being added to the hives as the colony’s population grows!
